Bathed in a dense network of rivers or groundwater “Brunnewasser” this unique wetland is inhabited by a flora (Siberian iris, gladiolus … without forgetting the water lilies) and fauna original (the gray heron, woodpecker, the golden oriol, roosting cormorants, storks and swans roam of the Ried …).
Some rodents also fond of this environment: beavers, raccoons, otters. Not to mention the deer (in Illwald there are the largest group of deer in freedom of France), deer and wild boars…
Ancient village of fishermen and boatmen, Illhauesern takes its name from the Ill River, which runs through the town. From the village, you can change the Ill and Fecht, accompanied by a boatman, cross the Ried and forest Illwald (nature reserve) on a Canadian canoe or kayak independently.
